Why trade websites lose work
Someone looking for a plumber, electrician, builder or roofer is usually on a phone, and often has a problem that needs fixing today. If your number is hard to find, the page is slow to open or the photos look like stock pictures, they leave. They go back to Google and ring the next name.
A good trade website does three jobs. It shows you are real and qualified, and it shows the kind of work you want more of. It also makes calling, messaging or asking for a quote a one-tap job.
You do not need twenty pages to do that. A plumber or electrician working alone can start with one well-made page. A building or roofing firm may want to be found for each service, in each town it covers. That usually needs a page for each.
Found when people search “near me”
People search for a trade and a place: “emergency plumber Barking”, “electrician near me”, “loft conversion Romford”. Two things decide who they see: your Google Business Profile and the pages on your website.
With every website we set up or tidy your Google Business Profile. That means the right categories, the areas you cover, your hours and photos of real jobs. On the site, each service and each main area gets its own page with a clear heading. Google can then match the page to the search.
Reviews do much of the selling for a trade. Our local SEO service includes a simple way to ask happy customers for one. And if you want calls this week rather than in a few months, Google Ads is the quicker way. Ads can put you at the top for the jobs and areas you choose. They run during the hours you can pick up the phone.

Questions people ask
- Can my site show I’m Gas Safe or NICEIC registered?
- Yes. Your website can show accreditations such as Gas Safe or NICEIC. We show your real accreditations and link to the register so customers can check.
- I’m busy on site. Do I have to write anything?
- No, you do not have to write anything for your website. Send photos and a few notes; AI-written words are included, or a person can write them for £120.
- Can ads run only when I can take calls?
- Yes. Google Ads can be set to your working hours and the areas you cover.
- How long does a trade website take?
- A one-page site is usually live in about a week. A business website usually takes two to five weeks from the first chat to going live. The main thing that slows it down is waiting for photos. Send what is on your phone and we will work with it.
- I get my work from Facebook and recommendations. Do I need a website?
- Facebook and recommendations are worth keeping. But people who are recommended to you still look you up before they call. A website and Google listing in your own name are the only places you fully control.
- Who owns the website and the domain?
- Chalybs clients own their website and domain. The domain, the hosting and the site are in your name from day one. If you ever leave, you take it all with you.
